I love observing life, just like a flâneur.

  • Snow: Winter’s way of reading her poem. As she reads it aloud, the words fall down to the earth.

  • A playfulness co-created by nature and our built environment: ‘The sky above' on the ‘below’.

  • Waves carrying tales

Captured waves carrying their tales from the sea to the shore; leaving their illuminated marks on the sand to say their goodbye.

  • An ode to the projector

I encountered this projector at some house party in Wburg, NY. I appreciated projectors for creating joyful moments for our spaces. I then imagined the life behind its eyes.

    ”Dear P,

Thanks for bringing a pseudo-galaxy into the space. Thanks for the spectrum of colors and the positive energy along with it you bring to the night. Thanks for having Daft Punk’s 1,000 lonely stars dancing all around the room and let us float in the ocean of dreams. Oh dear projector! We love you but we mostly do when it’s darker.Note: 1,000 lonely stars is reference to Daft Punk ’s amazing Instant Crush song.”

  • A flower far away from her nature

There it is! A flower is standing still on the balcony of an old building amid Taksim, Istanbul.

A flower far from her nature, perhaps thinking about what she is doing between the antennas. Come, let's look at the world for a second through the eyes of the flowers on your balcony.

    How does it feel like?

  • How do we treat our luggage?

Luggages rarely have a chance to get out of our storage and see the world outside. While we travel, they take a vacation too. I began to think about the life cycle of the luggage on a day where I landed to Istanbul. I watched the airport ecosystem through my window. When I was watching, I asked myself; How well do we care about our luggage? From the moment of farewell in check-in kiosk, overhead bins or under seats their destiny is meant to be Beaten,Thrown, or just goin with the flow.

  • Windows archive stories

Pay attention to the central horizontal line, dividing the frame. Above, old buildings seem like they are placed under a roof but not the sky! A rebellious play against nature, perhaps. For the below frame, look closely at the people waiting for the ferry. It's full of "emotion." See the bird on the right above frame within the left below frame too! A single photograph has countless stories to tell. The world fascinates me!

  • Pollock in Max Cooper's AV

This audiovisual during Max Cooper’s concert at Sonar Festival 2020 reminded me of Pollock! It feels like a large amount of data becomes Max Cooper’s color palette.

I imagined a scene how Pollock would create his works using an iPad or with AI. With immersive tech is coming around, I can’t stop but think about the future of audiovisuals and how interactive they’ll get.

  • The story of Daft Punk’s 1,000 lonely stars

Here is a story of how my starry Zara top took me on a journey with Daft Punk’s Instant Crush song. Wait! Frank Sinatra, Queen, and more surprising names were on that journey as well!

“Daft Punk - Instant Crush's "1,000 lonely stars" were not "hiding in the cold" but on my black top last night. I kept them safe all nite. We danced together with my friends. What a great host I was. They even listened to Bowie's Space Oddity and felt so weird when they heard the part "the stars look very different today."

Then I let my "1,000 lonely stars" go back to where they belong, to the mighty sky. Their "Show must go on." I said please, "Fly Me to the moon, let me play among the stars" because I wanted to see "What spring is like on Jupiter and Mars."

We said farewell by listening to "Veridis Quo." What an emotional moment it was. Then I heard Julian Casablancas singing "1,000 lonely stars hiding in the cold" for us. And that was the story of those stars.”

A letter from the campus trees, branches and the leaves to the Alumni

Exhibited at Bogazici University Homecoming in 2019

Dear Alumni,

We hope that we somehow got your attention along your walks in the campus in your student life.

Maybe you have moments where you stopped for a second, breathed in and appreciated our calm, colorful and quiet presence. Sometimes it was with a change in our colors, sometimes it was with our blooming seasons, or with the help of our friend, the mighty wind we dropped a leaf in front of your way. Maybe we had times when we disappointed you with our big branches and leaves for clouding your Bosphorus view. Whatever we made you feel like, we were always there with you in your campus life and we will always be here even when you are gone.

We wanted to give you a warm welcome today with our changing colors which we believe to be symbols for our common respect for the diversity in our campus. Welcome all with your differences.

With love,
Campus trees, branches and leaves.

A visit to the Ancient Ani

"Between Armenia and Turkey lie the ruins of once bustling Ani. Now all that can be heard is the wind and the rustling, flower-heavy grass. Birdsong breaks the silence. Sometimes, someone hurries through the grass. The inhabitants of this desolate place? Has everything been staged?"

This line is from Francis Alÿs' short film "The Silence of Ani" that was shown in 14th Istanbul Biennal. I first heard about the film from our Sociology of Visual Culture class in 2017. Since then it was on my mind to see Ani Ruins.

Then I had a chance to visit this lullaby city in January 2018. There is something unique about Ancient Ani that makes me wonder how the life was like in the city thousands years ago.

It is very interesting to me that the places we live, saw and been today were home to many people from different geographies. This town was also home to diverse ethnicities thousands years ago who lived together in peace. For me there is a beautiful mystery I feel at this ancient ruins.”
